March 10 is International Day of Women Judges. An opportune moment to celebrate Ghanaian lawyer, academic, and human rights advocate Akua Kuenyehia. She is a 1983 alumna of the U.S. International Visitor's Leadership Program - U.S. Department of State's premier professional exchange program.
From 2003 to 2015, she served as a judge at International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, becoming the first vice president of the court. Prior to that, she was Ghana’s first female law professor and the first woman to be appointed as Dean of the University of Ghana Law Faculty. She was also a member of the Committee on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
Akua Kuenyehia has also taught at U.S. universities including Northwestern University and the University of Pennsylvania. Her impact in shaping national and international law is very evident. Join us in celebrating her monumental achievements today! #WomenHistoryMonth
