I was a bit skeptical at Martin Amidu's appointment - Rt Hon Bagbin

The Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic, Rt Hon Alban Bagbin has stated that he did not supported the former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu and the creation of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Rt Hon Bagbin in an interview on Thursday 7th December, 2020 after the swearing-in ceremony of the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said to Evans Nimako on PM Express that the appointment of Martin Amidu was needless since it did not birth the first against corruption.

"Let me say that I was a bit skeptical about that appointment.  Because if I am to sequence the fight against corruption, I will not put that in the first burner.  I will be looking at areas where we can strengthen to prevent the corruption committed than to talk about punishing the corrupt after it has been committed".

Rt Hon Bagbin further stated that he did not show any interest on the floor of the previous parliament when the Special Prosecutor's bill was being dealt with.
